FAQ's
Below you will find answers to some frequently asked questions at Happytime.
What will my child need to bring with them when attending the pre-school?
- A school bag that contains some spare clothing, labelled with your child's name. This is necessary for all children as we like to encourage messy play and they may require a change during the session. Please refrain from putting your child in best clothes as they will get mucky!
- A drinks bottle with water which is clearly labelled with your child's name.
- A good rain proof coat and wellies, again clearly labelled with your child's name. These will be needed everyday as we go outside in all weathers and the weather can change very quickly.
If your child has lunch they will need a labelled lunch box with a well-balanced lunch in it. We suggest a sandwich or savoury alternative, cheese, yogurt, fruit and a small cake (no chocolate or sweets please)
What happens if my child doesn't settle in straight away when arriving at pre-school?
We suggest you bring your child in and leave them with their key person or another member of staff who will engage them in an activity. If your child does not settle in the session, don’t worry, we will contact you. We will not let a child be upset for a prolonged period. Some children take longer to settle than others but this is perfectly normal. Our settling in policy is available on our policy and procedure page.
Does it matter if my child is not yet toilet trained?
If your child is not yet toilet trained, please provide plenty of nappies and wipes in their school bag. If your child is ready to begin toilet training please let a member of staff know so we can support your child. Please remember to pop plenty of spare clothes (tops, bottoms, pants/knickers, socks and spare shoes) into their bags!
Can my child bring a comforter with them to the pre-school?
While your child is settling it is fine to bring in a comforter from home as this will help them settle. Over time we can work on them getting left in their bag or on their peg.
Can my child bring toys from home?
We ask that children do not bring in toys from home (unless they are an essential comforter). Unfortunately toys from home may get broken or lost which can cause upset. We have lots of great toys and activities in the preschool for them to play with!
Will I be contacted if my child has an accident or becomes ill?
If your child has an accident at preschool they will be assessed by one of our team members who is first aid trained. If it is minor, we will record it and we will ask you to sign it when you collect your child to show you were informed. If we assess the accident and feel it needs immediate treatment, we will contact you straight away.
If your child is ill at home, we ask that you keep them off so we do not spread the illness. If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea you must keep them off for 48 hours after the last incident. If your child fall sick at preschool, we will contact you right away.
It is very important you keep your contact details and emergency contact details with us up to date!
What drink and snacks are available for my child during their time at the pre-school?
At snack time, the children can choose between water or milk and we provide a range of healthy snacks. We ask each child to bring in a piece of fruit on a Friday which we will share at snack time.
What do I do if my child needs to take medicine during their time at the pre-school?
If it is necessary for your child to take medication during the preschool session, please make sure it is handed to a member of staff and we will fill out a medication form with you. Any medication given to us must have a prescription sticker on it with your child's name and all medicines must be in date.
