Early Years Curriculum
The pre-school's philosophy is to provide a caring, safe and stimulating environment in which children can develop to their own full potential. Our ethos emphasises caring, respect, honesty and sense of community. We support all aspects of learning and development including personal, social, and emotional development. we respect the child's right to be heard, to form their own identity, to feel valued and a sense of belonging and to promote self esteem.
We aim to:
- provide high quality care and education for children aged 2 to 5 years
- ensure children are valued as individuals in a happy, friendly and caring environment
- work in partnership with parents to help children learn and develop
- add to the life and well-being of the local community
- offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity
We aim to ensure that each child:
- is in a safe and stimulating environment
- is given generous care and attention, because our ratio of qualified staff to children is high
- has the chance to join in with other children and adults to live, play, work and learn together
- is helped to take forward her/his learning and development by building on existing skills and knowledge
- has a personal key person who makes sure they progress at their own pace

We enjoy a variety of activities that have been set out for free flow play, planned both inside and out based upon the children's interests and next steps. We have access to a large secure playground area where we provide a wide range of outside physical play equipment, sand, water and a small garden area. We use the outside space in all weathers.
When the children arrive, they self register and choose a room to play in, when all parents have left the building, the children are able to free flow from room to room and from outside to inside independently.
We operate a rolling snack time whereby children choose the time for their snack. The children are encouraged to prepare their fruit/vegetables and are offered milk or water. The snack varies, apart from a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, it may include multicultural food or the occasional treat. Towards the end of our session, the children go to either Caterpillar room, for the younger children, or to Butterfly room where they are invited to join in a music and movement activity or a song and rhyme time if they so wish. The session closes with a story, which may include puppets and props.
Afternoon sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays are popular and spaces are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
We operate an optional lunch club whereby children bring a healthy packed lunch to sit and enjoy with the staff. After lunch the children engage in quiet play until parents arrive.
We also offer early drop off sessions that begin at 8.45am for a small additional fee.
All children will be assessed by their key person using an interactive online learning journal system. (from January 2018) Observations, videos and photos can be sent instantly to a parent via email using the Tapestry app. It is a fantastic way of sharing photos from home too. Any child with special needs will be supported by staff and outside agencies. We involve parents and other professionals in order to provide a fully inclusive environment. Children are given valuable learning experiences so that they can develop and progress in all seven areas of learning and development covered by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The entire staff team works together to drive improvement, continually evaluating and monitoring the effectiveness of all aspects of the setting.
At our last Ofsted we were graded OUTSTANDING
